EA Sports NHL '96 - All-star Season 1 Nords Game 71 | The Islanders Drop Anchor in Quebec City

Having given up 5 goals in each of their first 2 meetings this season, the New York Islanders travelled to Quebec City looking to stifle the Nordiques scorers in Game 71. Both teams were successful in that in the 1st period with the game tied at the intermission. Shots were QUE 22 and NYI 8 at the break. Sakic broke the stalemate with a hard backhander that beat Tommy Soderstrom top-blocker-side off a pass from Kovalenko. Soderstrom had a bit of trouble with some old-timey goalie screening in front by his defense. Shots at the 2nd break were QUE 35 and NYI 17. Wendel Clark mad the score 2-0 for Quebec when he sniped top-blocker-side from in close on Quebec's third shot of the 3rd period. He sniped again on the backhand a few minutes later after a rough hit-and-steal. That gave Quebec the coveted 3-0 lead. New York had no response despite some good hances and the game ended 3-0 for Quebec. Thibault stopped all 20 shots he faced for another solid shut-out. Enjoy!
