The charming town of Arroyo de la Miel is one of the three districts that make up the town of Benalmádena. Located between Benalmádena Pueblo and Benalmádena Costa, this vibrant town is full of wniding back alleys and beautiful plazas that adhere to the old village ways of life. Known as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Benalmádena, Arroyo de la Miel also has a large British expat community. Arroyo de la Miel did not exist until the end of the 18th century, when the Italian Félix Solesio bought the farmhouse of the same name in order to create an industrial complex to manufacture paper for the Royal Factory of Macharaviaya cards. After the bankruptcy of the paper complex at the beginning of 19th century, the land was sold in parcels among its creditors, paving the way to the current Plaza de La Tribuna. Today, only the entrance arch to the square and the recently restored La Tribuna building remain. In the mid-19th century the arrival of investors looking for land cultivation, the construction of railroad at the start of the 20th century, and the development of tourism from the 1960s largely contributed to the urban of growth of the zone. Due to various factors such as epidemics, unemployment, and emigration, little by little the lands of the farmhouse were sold to workers, building their houses in the area and forming what is known as the old town of Arroyo de la Miel today.
