Pascha in the Hawaiian Islands is especially joyous with the presence of the Wonderworking and Myrrhstreaming “Hawaiian” Iveron Icon of the Mother of God. She is called the “Hawaiian Iveron Icon”, after her home land in the islands of Hawaii This Wonderworking Iveron Icon of the Mother of God has been streaming myrrh since 2007, when it was found on a bookshelf in the home of an Orthodox Christian couple. Since that time, this Holy Icon was recognized by the Russian Orthodox Church as a miracle worthy of all veneration. Since 2007, the Wonderworking Iveron Icon ceases giving her myrrh and goes completely dry during Orthodox Holy Week, and then on Orthodox Holy Saturday, during the Saturday morning Vesperal Liturgy, the holy myrrh begins to form once again on the Holy Icon. Beads of myrrh also begin appearing on the glass and wood of the case that protects the Holy Image, this has occurred many times throughout the years during the singing of the hymns to honor Christ, “For gloriously has He been glorified...”. This year was no exception. As the Vesperal Liturgy commenced, the Holy Myrrh began forming once again. Throughout the day, the slow trickle of myrrh dripping from the Holy Icon begins to gush as the midnight hour approaches. The fragrance and amount of myrrh coming from the Holy Icon intensifies as we begin the Midnight Matins, Resurrection Service and finally the Midnight Holy Liturgy. By the end of the Holy Liturgy, at around 3:00am, the Holy Icon, now completely saturated and soaked with the holy myrrh (along with her covers) was opened for the faithful to bear witness of God’s glory in his saints!
