Dinorwig slate quarry was one of the biggest in the world at its height, employing thousands of men from Gwynedd and Anglesey. When it closed in the 1960s much of the quarry was just left, standing in time. It's a vast place of deep tunnels, high galleries, haunting huts and rusted machinery. It's a great place to walk, go climbing or just explore -like a giant theme park for history nerds. Today the mountain is even a super-efficient, sustainable power plant.
