This is a brief side-by-side comparison of how S-video and Composite video look on the Super Nintendo, running Super Empire Strikes Back. Please excuse how bad I am at this game! This is the actual cartridge being played on a 1st generation SNES (so...3-chip? definitely not one-chip). The video was captured into an external capture card using S video and Composite video cables. Sadly, the device only captures at 720x480, so the video you see here is actually scaled up. Not much, though, only about 2x at maximum. The S-video is far superior in my opinion. It may be hard to tell, but although the composite video appears to have higher contrast, it's actually just less vibrant colors. The "space" not looking black is a product of video compression during the video capture, and does not represent how either game looks when played in person. So basically, the quality differences you see here are exaggerated in real life. Again, the quality of the video could be better, but it gives you a good idea how different the two formats look on this awesome system :).
