While most tourists only visit the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, there is a different side of Cambodia to explore through fishing. Between us touring temples in tuk-tuks, I escaped the crowded tourist spots to try street fishing where I was joined by curious local kids. Shared some tackle, rigged up a water bottle as a make shift fishing reel, and created connections that transcended language barriers. The highlight was a bucket list fishing adventure on legendary Tonle Sap, Southeast Asia's largest lake, where I caught my first-ever snakehead! The fresh caught snakehead soup was cooked right on the boat - an authentic Cambodian experience most travelers never get to enjoy.
