What I Don't Like About Being a Doula

Being a doula can be extremely rewarding, but this one particular issue can be exhausting. I spend A LOT of time educating folks to be prepared for their birth but no matter how much we talk about birth, informed consent, evidence based care etc. it does not change the system; the doctors, the hospitals, the ideology of medicalized birth. Having doula support from a quality birth worker can help to lower your chance of having a c-section, asking for an epidural, having forceps/vacuum delivery and increase your chance of a spontaneous vaginal birth BUT even with all the benefits of a doula we ALONE cannot change the system and what is happening at large. Although I have respect and gratitude for the medical system when it is needed and utilized for the right reasons I do not think that we need to over medicalize birth and continue practices that are out dated, and/or unsupported by evidence. evidence on eating in labor: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/eviden...
