Bossano says Spain's isthmus concession is a major recognition of Gibraltar's sovereignty

The Minister for Economic Development has said Spain has made significant concessions in recognising Gibraltar's sovereignty over the Isthmus. In his contribution to the debate on the Treaty in Parliament, Sir Joe Bossano argued Spain has long refused to recognise the isthmus as British territory, so allowing officers to operate either side of the border is the first concession, and to call that Gibraltar crossing a red line crossed was "insane."  Sir Joe said Lichtenstein and San Marino, two recognised sovereign states with a seat at the UN, had less access to the Schengen area than Gibraltar would. He said the worst case scenario, to walk away without a deal, would mean a closed border, dwindling MoD presence, and economic decline.
