Watch the Congressional staff briefing on the subject of Azerbaijan's ongoing unlawful detention and abuse of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian captives, and the effort to ensure their immediate release. The briefing is moderated by Ken Hachikian, chair of the Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights (ALCJHR), and features testimony by international legal experts, including: Siranush Sahakyan, President of the International Comparative Law Center based in Yerevan, Armenia, and Executive Director of the ALCJHR. Jared Genser, managing director of Perseus Strategies. Genser currently serves as international legal counsel for Ruben Vardanyan, the former State Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, who has been in Azerbaijan's arbitrary detention since the genocidal ethnic cleansing of the region in September, 2023. Karnig Kerkonian, is the founding partner of Kerkonian Dajani LLP, where he leads the firm's international and federal practice groups focusing on complex litigation matters, Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act litigation, commercial sanctions regimes, and commercial transactions, both international and domestic. Panelists provide an overview of the human rights violations perpetrated by Azerbaijan during and since the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and the 2023 ethnic cleansing of Artsakh, the international legal efforts to ensure justice for the victims of Azerbaijan's aggression, the current status of Armenian prisoners in Azerbaijan's custody, and the avenues Congress can pursue to ensure their release. #Accountability2025 #ANCAdvocacy
