The Measure Of Man I am Gabriel... Watcher of ages. Messenger of light. Is man good... or evil at heart? What a fragile commotion, listen to the sound, I have seen their love grow where meaning can be found. They reach for one another, open, unafraid, Hearts that feel untouched, not yet bent or swayed. Yet I’ve seen them stripped to hunger and desire, Small and raw and selfish, feeding private fire. No light they do not bargain, no truth without a price, Gain before compassion, roll the loaded dice. I watched a child at winter’s door, eyes burning bright, Laughing at a simple gift, pure and filled with light. A smile without a strategy, joy without a plan, In that moment I believed again in man. Or was I fooling myself, mistaking want for grace? Flattery wrapped in innocence, desire in a softer face. Words rehearsed like prayers, perfectly aligned, Not evil maybe, but already learning how to bind. A star reflected in the eye, Or hunger wearing skin? Is joy a truth that rises free, Or greed that learns to grin? Is man born good or evil from the start? A breath of light or shadow in the heart? Between the urge to give and the will to take, I search for truth in every choice they make. Good or evil, quiet, unknown, Man is shaped by heart and mind alone. Their joy is restless, yes, but vibrant and alive, Not every movement hides a drive to thrive. Through others, man becomes what he may be, Those were words I once believed profoundly. But I have seen the origin, naked and unchained, Greed without a boundary, instinct unrestrained. Before the lesson, before the rule and name, There is hunger first, desire without shame. Is a gift an act of love, Or the seed of the fall? Do they rise without a fence, Or need the wall? Is man born good or evil from the start? A voice of hope or hunger in the heart? Between control and care, belief and might, Love becomes a cage or learning light. Good and evil, say it proud, Man is both, unmistakably loud. To raise is not to bind but guide with trust, Let them bloom in freedom, not rot in dust. Must every child inherit ancient fear? Must innocence always disappear? I cherish laughter freely given, unbought, That is the gift no power ever taught. Enough. I have watched empires rise and fall. Freedom without law becomes a cage of its own. Time taught me this. Is man born good or evil, angel or beast? A spark of heaven’s grace or shadows released? In joy and greed, in mercy and might, The war in their soul burns day and night. Good and evil, woven deep in the whole, Man is both, yet chooses his role. From the cradle to the stars above, They rise or fall on wings of love. Is man born good or evil, angel or beast? Good and evil, woven deep in the whole, Man is both, yet chooses his role. From the cradle to the stars above, They rise or fall on wings of love. I am Gabriel. And I still watch. And I still do not know.
