#southafricanyoutuber #southafrica #science #education #engineering #uct About This Video: Professor Batmanathan Dayanand (Daya) Reddy is the interim Vice Chancellor (VC) and Emeritus Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa. Daya was born in 1953 in Gqeberha, previously Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. He received his PhD in mechanics in 1977, at the age of 24, from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. After a brief postdoctoral position at University College London (UCL), Prof. Reddy returned to UCT where he assumed a lectureship. He describes the cosmologist George F. R. Ellis and the late John Martin as being influential mentors in his life as a young academic during this time. In 2004, Reddy was awarded the National Order of Mapungubwe - the highest honour of the land - by President Thabo Mbeki, for his exceptional contributions to science.
