Kengo Kuma’s curved ‘engawa’ canopy at the Gulbenkian Museum Extension in Lisbon merges architecture and landscape into one fluid space. Designed with Vladimir Djurovic (VDLA), this 2024 project includes a new cultural center, reimagined gardens and a public plaza connecting the Modern Art Centre to the historic Gulbenkian grounds. The 107m-long canopy creates a sheltered transition zone with warm wood interiors and white ceramic exteriors. The native-plant garden is a self-sustaining ecosystem that won the LILA 2025 Jury Prize for innovative landscape design. This cinematic walkthrough explores the extension's gallery spaces, terraces and pathways. Perfect for architecture lovers planning a Lisbon trip.
