Biko Funeral - Narrated

This is the AZAPO Political Education Series. This narration of the Steve Biko Funeral was the last in the series of the 43rd Biko month commemorative events. Rev Drake Tshenkeng, the last Deputy President of the Black Peoples Convention (BPC), narrated the feelings and reactions of the leadership and the Black nation upon receiving news of Biko's death on the 12 September 1977. He further takes us on a journey towards the burial recounting the events and preparations that were undertaken for the Biko funeral which was held at Ginsberg, eQonce on the 25 September 1977. He estimated that about 50 000 people may have been at the funeral despite multitudes of people who were blocked and prevented from traveling to Ginsberg to pay their last respects to Steve Biko. He concludes by reflecting on the magnanimity of Biko's ideas that continue to reverberate and live despite his martyrdom. Biko Lives!
