Overture No.1 by Kelly Tang Performed by West Winds, Band of the Bukit Batok Community Club Conductor: ME5 Philip Tng Liat Png Two Overtures for Wind Band by Kelly Tang was commissioned by the Co-Curricular Activities Branch of the Singapore Ministry of Education for the Singapore Youth Festival 2009 Central Judging of Concert Bands. Overture No. 1 opens with a fanfare which ushers in the jaunty main theme, stated by the clarinets. This March tune is then reiterated by the powerful lower brass. A lyrical secondary theme flows in, developing into the grand return of the main theme, presented by the trumpets. The intermediary Trio features a stately melody which builds up to a grand climax. This leads to a recapitulation of the original themes, now transformed and presented in a livelier tempo.
