This Chapter is about Electric Current & Its Effect • Flow of electrons is called Charge. When the circuit if closed moving charge produce Electric Current. • Circuit requires – Wire, Cell, Switch & Conductor. Its of two types- Open Circuit, when switch is OFF & Closed Circuit when switch is ON. • Electricity can produce Magnetism in a Solenoid. Solenoid is a current carrying wire wrapped around an Iron Piece. The magnitude of Magnetism depends on Number of Turns & the amount of current flowing through it. If you increase them, Magnetism will increase. The same principle is used in Cranes, Hospitals & Loud Speakers. • Current can produce Heating Effect also. The Best Examples are – Electric Bulb which has Tungsten Filament which gets heating up when current flows through it & Starts Glowing. Same with Iron or Electric Heater which has Nichrome Wire. This Wire has greater Resistance thus more current flows through the wire producing Heating Effect. • Electric Current helps in Hydrolysis. It is a process of breakage of water molecule Chemically to produce Hydrogen & Oxygen Gas. Hydrogen gas produced is double the amount of oxygen as in formula its H20, thus theses elements combine in ration 2:1. Hydrogen produces POP Sound with a burning matchstick. Hydrogen is produced at Cathode & Oxygen at Anode. • Current can be Measured with a Device called AMMETER while Voltage is measured with VOLTAMETER. • When Electric current through battery combines with Magnetic Field, it produces Rotational motion in the wire which is called Torque & this motor is HOMOPOLAR MOTOR. Its called so as it moves in one direction & changes the direction if polarity is reversed. You can see all these activities on my 6 tables for better insight of the concept.
