[anchor] Issues of environmental pollution and energy saving have grabbed global attention lately. Automobiles are evolving to become more environmental friendly in line with the the global trend. The 8th Seoul Motor Show this year reflected this trend as well. Let's find out more in our next report. [report] This bus developed by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and a local company resolved the problem of battery charging and limited driving times facing previous electric buses. It removed the trouble of the need to drop by stations to charge batteries as it adopted an automatic charging system while driving on the street. This world's first-developed 'online electric bus' does not even release contaminants, attracting attention as an environmentally-friendly vehicle. [Interview - Lim Yong-soo, Senior Manager / Advanced Development Team, Daewoo Bus Corp.] "As the vehicle moves purely on the electricity, unlike the previous diesel hybrid, CNG hybrid, diesel bus or CNG bus, it emits zero amount of CO₂or gas emission. It is a perfectly pollution-free bus." This uniquely designed car with three wheels is also forecast to become the eco-friendly transportation in the future. Unlike the previous hybrid electric vehicles, it can also run engines from the energy created by the driver's pedaling, as well as from the battery. This vehicle, which is commercialized in Europe at present, will soon enter the domestic market and will serve as a new concept of transportation. [Interview - Kim Min-sik, Director / Electric Vehicle Business Team, PowerPlaza] "The advantage of this vehicle is that it can drive up to 30 kilometers with one kilowatt, or 100 won, of electricity. And it can drive not just by electric motors but also by human pedaling, it is truly a sports car and a vehicle of the future." The Seoul Motor Show kicked off its eighth edition this year to much fanfare, putting the environmentally-friendly, highly efficient vehicles at the center. Local companies announced six new car models during the show, flexing the muscles of the local auto industry. The highlight of the trade show, attended by 138 companies from eight countries, was green automobiles. Including a majority of new models that were eco-friendly cars, a total of 44 environmentally-friendly vehicles were on display, foreshadowing the future of the auto industry.
