On October 7, 2023. An officer from the North Fond du Lac Police department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after a female reported it to be swerving and crossing the centerline. The officer made contact with the driver (Khup) who spoke very little English and was later discovered to speak Burmese. Communication with Khup was done through Google Translate and a over the phone Language Interpreter. Khup’s movements appeared slow, and when asked for his license, he opened his wallet and flipped past his license before finally locating it. Khup’s eyes were also bloodshot and glassy and he stated that he had 1 beer approximately an hour ago. He was asked to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and agreed to doing them. A PBT test revealed a .184 (BAC). Officers informed Khup that he would be under arrest for (OWI). He was compliant, placed in handcuffs and transported to the hospital for a blood draw before being booked into jail. Khup was found guilty for OWI (2nd). He was sentenced to 40 days in jail, his license got revoked for 14 months and he was ordered to pay a $1655 fine. This video is for educational purposes only.
