In January 2023 -February 2023 alone, UNICEF supported mass screening of children under five years for wasting reaching 50,692 children in Isingiro, Kamwenge and Kyegegwa refugee hosting districts. 5,126 children with severe wasting were admitted for treatment. Thanks to funding from the UK government through the Building Resilience and Effective Emergency Refugee Response (BRAER), UNICEF is making a significant impact on the nutrition crisis in the refugee areas of western Uganda. Faced with a worrying nutrition situation, this funding has enabled critical interventions to prevent the deterioration of nutritional status and save the lives of children aged 6-59 months suffering from child wasting. UNICEF's efforts include providing financial, technical, and supply support to enhance nutrition services, improve diets, and promote better nutrition practices among children, adolescents, and women in the Kamwenge, Kyegegwa, Kikuube, and Isingiro districts.
