I panicked during the making of this video. I started to think about what would happen if Stevie Nicks saw this video. Would she think I’m a bad bass player? Would she think I’m ugly? If the answer, against all odds, is no to those questions there are some new question. Would she consider hiring me as her bass player? And would she go out with me? (Don’t tell me wife and don’t tell Stevie I’m married). A lot more questions arose during the filming but I’ll leave them for now. I think the year was 2010 and I had just bought my first iPhone. I thought it was a good idea to have some music on the phone to listen to when I took my dog, Brutus out for a walk. One of the first, if not the first albums I had there was Crystal Visions a Steve Nicks compilation. This song is from her 1989 album The Other Side of the Mirror and that’s one of her albums that I don’t know as well as the previous ones so when I really listened to Room’s on Fire was when I was out walking my dog, probably the rain. It’s produced by Rupert Hine and written by Nicks and Rick Knowles. Bass was by Vail Johnson which I most associate with Kenny G. One thing is for sure Vail Johnson and I got two different ways to play bass. It was a bit of a challenge to play this due to the total different styles but I’ve done the best that I could do at that moment and have to settle for that.
