Difficult biliary cannulation in ERCP procedures with or without trainee involvement: a comparative study by Xu Wang, Hui Luo, Qin Tao et al. Summary: The 5–5–1 criteria (more than 5 minutes spent attempting to cannulate, more than 5 cannulation attempts, more than 1 unintended pancreatic duct cannulation) have been proposed by the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy to define difficult ERCP cannulation. This study from China proposes that when a trainee is involved in ERCP cannulation, these criteria should be adapted to 15–10–2, which has a performance similar to that of the 5–5–1 criteria used for non-trainee procedures.
