Welcome to another train video, and the longest video on my channel! In this video I ride on a Northern Trains Class 156 Super Sprinter train from Darlington to Newcastle via Durham and Chester-le-Street on the East Coast Main Line (ECML). This is a service which Northern trains only operate a couple of times a day, mainly for commuters to ensure faster journey's between popular locations in Teeside, such as Saltburn, Redcar and Middlesbrough along to Newcastle direct without the need to change trains. For most of the day these journeys will either be made by taking a Northern train along the Durham coast line via Hartlepool and Sunderland or through taking a Northern train to Darlington and connecting to an Intercity service to Newcastle. Aside from the small number of Northern journeys in the morning peak, and one return working late at night, all services between Darlington and Newcastle are provided by LNER, Crosscountry or Transpennine Express. This service originated at Saltburn and is therefore a useful direct link to Newcastle! If you would like to know the times of the Northern Trains services from Darlington to Newcastle / return workings via the ECML, then just let me know in the comments! I would be very happy to give you this information! I have not provided times in the description as I don't want to post info that could become out of date and for you to then to turn up at the station and have to ride a Voyager instead! That would be awful! If you leave a comment I will be sure to give you the most up to date times for these services! There are loads of benefits of riding one of the Northern services between Darlington and Newcastle. Firstly, an advanced single is much cheaper than on any intercity train! You can travel one way for about £2.50! Another benefit is that Northern trains typically operate on stopping services so you never get to experience their trains at full speed, but here you can!!! Trains on this route will either be a Class 156 Super Sprinter or Class 158 Express Sprinter. If you are very lucky, you may get a set of both! In this video you get to see the Class 156 accelerate to its maximum speed of 75MPH! It is really nice to get this train at full speed! I really like the Class 156 trains, especially these ex Northern Spirit ones which have comfortable RIchmond seats. The trains have been refurbished to a good standard which includes new flooring, new seat covers, WIFI and USB charging! I would definitely recommend the ex Northern Spirit 156 trains for a comfortable and enjoyable ride! Unit 156482 is a Class 156 Super Sprinter owned by Angel and leased by Northern Trains. It is based at the Heaton Train depot in Newcastle. The interior of this train is ex Northern Spirit fully refurbished in 2021. This unit can be found across all Northern Trains routes in North East England, as well as routes to Carlisle from Barrow, Lancaster and Preston. Train Type: Class 156 Super Sprinter Unit: 156482 (carriage 52482). TOC: Northern Trains Route: Darlington to Newcastle via East Coast Main Line. Stations served: Darlington, Durham, Chester-le-Street, Newcastle. Any other details or questions, just ask in the comments!
