This is video #162 in my Final Fantasy VII playthrough. Before you are offered the opportunity to participate in the Special Battles, you need to get three items: Cloud's Ultima Weapon from the Ultimate Weapon, Cloud's Omnislash limit manual from the Battle Arena, and the W-Summon materia from the Battle Arena. The Special Battle always offers the same set of enemies: Sea Worm, Ho-chu, Unknown 3, Serpent, Wolfmeister, Behemoth, Maximum Kimaira, and Proud Clod with Jamar Armor. The key to surviving this battle is to try for worthless handicaps, such as Cure, Lucky 7, Poison, Frog, or Mini. If you wind up in the Proud Clod round with no way to cure, you're pretty much screwed. The only reason to do the Special Battle is to get the Final Attack materia. If you link it to another materia, Final Attack has a chance of performing that materia's action when the character dies. For instance, Final Attack + Life can revive the character upon death. To make the chances better, Final Attack has to be leveled up. There are other prizes, but they are not worth the effort. You can possibly earn Ribbons from this, but it is more reliable to use Morph on Master Tonberries. And with that, that is the end of the main playthrough. I will be uploading methods to date Yuffie, Barret, and Tifa in other playlists. Final Fantasy VII is one of my favorite games in the series. It has great music, a good battle system, and a decent storyline. The materia system makes the characters very flexible. Besides assigning specific magic or commands, you can also use the element or status effect of the materia either as an attack or as a defense. For instance, on a weapon, Hades + Added Effect on a weapon is a good way to inflict status ailments. On armor, it is a good way to defend from status ailments. The graphics during the FMVs and the battles are not bad, but the graphics in the field are pretty simplistic. The PlayStation translation is not great; the PC translation is only marginally better.
