Watch in 4K/60fps! Date Set: 2/24/2026 Total Time - 49.765 Lap 1 | 12.884 Lap 2 | 18.465 Lap 3 | 18.416 BGM: ♪ XG – HYPNOTIZE ----------------------------------------------------- This was very long overdue. 4.5 years ago, I got my first 3-lap WR in this game on this very same track and category. Very shortly after, Logan went on to set several WRs on this track culminating in his 49.992 run that had lasted until now. However, I was actually still playing the track while Logan got his records and tried implementing the “no-stop” glitch approach for the second clip of the ultra. I actually succeeded in pulling this off and got a 13.022 lap 1, but I unfortunately failed on the driving during lap 2. This could have easily beaten Logan’s 49.992 run even with below average driving laps, but I choked that run away. I couldn’t replicate that fast glitch after some more grinding, so I set this category aside and played other tracks during my breaks from school. I recently graduated from college and now have some free time before I head off to do more schooling, so I decided that one of my last goals in this game was to reclaim this WR. I practiced both clips on Dolphin to try to develop the right rhythm for them, and then I started real attempts on my Wii. I gradually built consistency for the first pole clip to the point where I made them quite frequently (maybe 1/10 attempts on average, with several streaks of 2-3 pole clips in a row). Then, I just had to pray that my no-stop second clip approach would work. I eventually started getting high clips on the second part, but many of them failed due to getting a no lap count (due to landing too close to the finish line and failing the 95% rule) or falling just short of the track on the other side. I kept at it, and eventually I got a 12.972 lap 1. This was it. Yet again, I choked on the driving lap 2 by hitting the wall on the very last corner, and deja vu flooded over me from my fail 4.5 years ago. Despite this fail, I was very confident that I would eventually pull through with this WR, for my consistency at the first clip was very good and I was getting solid attempts at the second clip. Later, I improved my time to a 50.018, just .02 off Logan’s WR run. This run had a slow glitch lap despite doing the no-stop approach (a 13.285 lap 1 with a second clip that sent me very high in the air, losing a lot of time). I was so close to WR, but I was somewhat glad that the run didn’t get the record since it would have been very slow for my standards. After some more grinding, I finally achieved this run. My grind in total was about a month long with weeks of practice on Dolphin at first and then a few weeks on console doing attempts. While I am happy I achieved my goal of reclaiming this WR, I still don’t feel quite satisfied with the time and run. Lap 1 was solid, but there is room for improvement. The clips could have been slightly faster, I could have shroomed later in the air, and my SSMT release after the checkpoint hit was slow. I have hit a theoretical high 12.5 lap on Dolphin with savestates, but that kind of lap is probably unrealistic due to how fast with the clips and precise with the checkpoint hit you have to be. Laps 2 and 3 were just really shaky. I was quite nervous after hitting the glitch, and it definitely showed in my driving. My ramp shortcuts were really wide, and my general driving was wide as well with slow miniturbos. I just didn’t want to choke WR again, so I played it pretty safe. I still want to bring this track down to a 49.5 or so while I have the consistency with the glitch. However, if I don’t achieve that, then I will still be happy that I was able to reclaim this WR. Given how dead this category is, I won’t be surprised if I last as a WR holder on this track for a very long time. Maybe someone will be able to pull off the shooting star ODB glitch method and obsolete this strategy, but only time will tell.
