There have been protests on the streets of India aimed at Pakistan in the wake of the death of the five soldiers along the disputed border with Kashmir. In New Delhi police turned water cannons on a crowd which gathered outside the home of the defence minister. Many were activists from the opposition BJP Party who want the government to abandon the resumption of planned talks with Islamabad over the disputed border with Kashmir. The killings also caused an uproar in the Indian parliament where the opposition said the army should give a "befitting reply" to Pakistan. Islamabad denies any involvement in the killings. Kashmir is claimed by both countries and has been a flash point for over 60 years. A decade-old ceasefire has been in force along the line of control which separates the two countries.
