Parts Available here: I moved to Boston in the summer of 2021 and immediately fell in love with this city. Scenes from Boston has been coalescing in the back of my mind since the spring of 2022 only feeling ready enough to be written down and published in 2024. Scenes from Boston is a collection of four episodes around the city of Boston each representing a different season, some have pictures associated with them, while others were inspired by certain areas of the city in combination with my personal experiences in Boston. 1. “Snow at the ‘T’ Stop" is inspired by a picture I took on a snowy day waiting outside for the train during winter. This picture taken at the Allston stop on the green line – B branch is attached below. This dynamic movement represents the chaotic nature of this intersection, with cars and trains passing, people walking, and bells resonating off the asphalt and apartment buildings. The further you move away from the intersection the music gets calmer. As the music gets calmer there are still snow flurries whisking around. You walk further away but you can still hear the chaos in the distance until it finally dissipates. 2. “Reservoir at Night” is inspired both by a picture and by a personal experience in Boston. This eerie and suspenseful movement was conceived during a visit to the Chestnut Hill Reservoir on a spring night. This was a night where the northern lights could be seen in Boston. I did not end up seeing the northern lights (I needed to be farther outside the city), but I did get my inspiration for this movement. The lake was very quiet, and the moon was reflecting off the surface of the water. There were a lot of people out but very little light, sometimes you wouldn’t realize someone was around you till the very last minute. This created a creepy atmosphere where you felt wary of your surroundings. There was however a peaceful quiet and calm to this night. I sat out at the lake for over an hour in the peaceful dark quiet thinking about life, and thinking of how lucky I was to have all the great friends, family and loved ones around me. This juxtaposition of creepy atmosphere with an inner calm is what inspired this piece. 3. There is no picture associated with "Butterflies and Bliss". This came to me when I had a picnic date on a summer afternoon in the park. The day ended up being beautiful and we ended up sitting in the park for four hours and got very sunburnt. This movement goes back and forth between two main ideas. The first inspired by all the butterflies I saw floating around, and the second by the bliss I felt by being completely calm and present while laying in the park. Nothing else mattered, it was only there and now. However, like that moment, it does not last forever. I went on one other date with him, and then it ended up not working out, but I will always cherish that day in the park. 4. Similar to the third movement the fourth movement does not have a picture associated with it. "Meditation by the Charles" is inspired by the many walks I would take on the Esplanade. I would often take these walks when I had a frustrating day or just needed to take my mind off things. I loved taking these walks in the fall as the air was starting to get colder and the stagnant heat of the summer was disappearing. Let this meditation wash over you and remember that everything passes and everything changes. These four movements act like a love letter to this city. I have grown so much during my time in Boston, and I cherish every minute that I get to spend here. 0:00 Program Notes 0:09 1. Snow at the "T" Stop 2:48 2. Reservoir at Night 6:24 3.
