HEYYYY PEEEPS, Who knew an Instant Pot could produce liquid gold? Welcome back to Deviled Fields! Today, we are taking those 5 gallons of sap from the backyard and turning them into 100% pure maple syrup right on the kitchen counter. In today’s video: 🥞 The Kitchen Setup: I’m showing my simple filtering process (coffee filters for the win!) and how I use the "browning" function on my Instant Pot to simmer-boil the sap. It took about 11 hours of patience, but the house smelled sweet. 🥞 The "Honest" Reviews: My oldest, Greyson, and my middle son, Chance, gave the final product a taste test. Between a "3 out of 5" and a "3 out of 9," I think I have some tough critics on my hands.. even if they did admit it tastes exactly like syrup! 🥞 Bottling & Storage: Why maple syrup is a homesteading dream... high sugar content means it’s shelf-stable in sterile jars without a traditional water bath. 🥞 Basement Check-In: We’re wrapping up in the basement to see how the seedlings are doing under my budget Amazon lights. Even at 50-60 degrees, we have germination! They’re taking their time, but they’re strong. Making syrup is the perfect way to get a "taste of spring" while the Wisconsin ground is still frozen.
