Yellow After the Rain (1971) by Mitchell Peters (1935 - 2017) performed by Brett Dietz, Associate Professor of Percussion, Louisiana State University. Yellow After the Rain is a required barrier for every freshman or sophomore at LSU. The piece contains combinations of single independent, single alternating, and double vertical strokes. I really became aware of the importance of learning this piece when I attended the Leigh Howard Stevens Marimba Seminar in New Jersey during the late 1990's. Most of us in the seminar that year had already learned this piece during our undergraduate studies but we ALL had to learn it again and play it for Leigh. In fact, we had a whole Friday of "Yellow" performances - all 30 of us! And of course, "Yellow" isn't a very flashy piece but proper technique and musicality are necessary in order to do it correctly. This video is for my students at LSU and dedicated to Leigh:-) I hope you enjoy it too. Brett
