The IWC Pilot’s watch Chronograph 41 is revamped with a very cool bronze case. And that could make for the coolest version yet. Price 7.750 euros - that’s a pretty competitive price for an automatic chronograph with great pedigree. Size IWC says its 41 millimeter, but according to my measurements the bronze case has a diameter of 41.4. It measures 14,5 millimeter in thickness and 51 millimeter lug to lug, all of which I think are excellent proportions for a watch, though a bit thick maybe. Reference IWCIC388109 Movement Ticking inside the bronze case is the calibre 69385 which is developed and produced in-house by IWC. There is still some debate on the provenance of this movement, as it is very far away based on the architecture of the Valjoux 7750 movement. But if you look at what IWC did to it, it’s fair to say it is very much an IWC calibre and definitely a great piece of engineering. It has a column wheel clutch, a pelaton winding system and overall better finishing. #IWC IWC was founded in 1868 by the American Florentine Ariosto Jones in the Swiss village Schaffhausen. The manufacture is located right next to the Rhine river, that initially was used to power the factory. It is now owned by luxury conglomerate Richemont. Anyone who’s been to the IWC manufacture in Schaffhausen, has seen that everything about this place is as modern and clean as it can be. The industrialized process is similar to a production line in a laboratory. Why I chose it The IWC Chrono really offers quite a lot of very cool looks and character for a good price. But the aspect that gives this watch just a bit more, is that great, great new size and bronze-blue combination, which is just cooler than the blue one that’s already out there. On the wrist it feels sturdy and masculine, without being garish at all. Its restrained design works perfectly well in nearly every occasion.
