Montauk State Park Opening Day 2026 - Right back to where I started

The reopening of Montauk State Park located in Salem Missouri is official! March 1st 2026 brings many people from all over the state to participate in the catching and taking home of stocked trout! This time last year I started my flyfishing journey here at Montauk State Park. I went to my local Basspro picked up my first flyrod/reel and some waders that were on sale and made my journey out to the park. Unintentionally the one week I chose to go to a trout park it turned out to be opening day! I was surprised to see how many people there was but as a first timer I assumed Trout Parks are usually this packed. Another fisher broke it down to me explaining what opening day was all about. Everybody was super nice there and it made my experience with the fishing community that much more wholesome. I caught my very first trout here and proceed to catch about 40 more throughout that day. Even since I became hooked on Flyfishing. Which led me down the route to exploring other local streams and getting into the Missouri Blue Ribbon slam.
