Each year our league runs a singles competition open to players who play for teams in the same division. Players usually play round robin in groups of 4. The winner of the group progresses to the next round where it becomes knockout format all the way to the final. This was the most open tournament of all the Divisions. Phil Crankshaw (Deepdale A) went in to the tournament as the Number 2 seed with a win rate of 79.63%. Adam Linton (Jacobaeus A) qualified from a tough group and was not seeded to get this far. Adam has a win rate of 51.52%. Both players like to dominate opponents which can make it difficult to get any rhythm when you play them. Phil is one of the few players who uses short pimples, Phil plays with them on his backhand and has an unusual serve from the FH side of the table. Phil will attack off both sides with a powerful FH topspin or BH counter hit. Adam has some of the best serves in our league and a powerful swinging FH which is often played with top and side. Adam will try and load the ball with spin off his BH side and step in to a passive block with his powerful FH. This was the first meeting of these two players this season.
