Italy’s Most Famous Highway Rest Stop | Italy Road Trip Ep. 9

Italy Vlog episode 9: In this shorter episode of the vlog, we check out one of Italy’s most famous highway rest stops – Autogrill. Autogrill has been around since the 40s (although in the beginning it was called “Pavesini”) and started as a simple highway outlet offering food and coffee. Since then Autogrill has expanded all over Italy and Europe with thousands of outlets. Autogrills are loved by many motorists driving through Italy and are especially known for their superior food options. Many Autogrills offer buffet dining with a wide range of Italian dishes. Sadly, the Autogrill that we visited didn’t have a buffet, so we settled for their classic snacks. We got their famous Bufalino sandwich and their new vegetarian WOW burger. The sandwich was surprisingly great and the WOW burger was, maybe not so surprisingly, okay. Still, we felt that the quality of the food was superior to the average rest stops that you can find all over Europe. And next time we’ll have to try their pasta and pizza, too. It’s a convenient place to grab a bite to eat and a coffee or to buy a new pair of pants in case you’ve had an accident. 🇮🇹 In the previous episodes we spent some days eating and sightseeing in Rome, rented a classic Fiat 500 and drove to the Le Marche region in Italy, before heading off to Tuscany. We explored the beautiful towns of Montepulciano and Pienza, as well as famous Tuscan dishes and Pecorino. We then visited a winery in Montepulciano, before driving to the majestic town of San Gimignano, where we also stayed in an Agriturismo. Oh and in between we also went on a speed-sightseeing trip through Siena.
