Patagonia hiking adventure – join me on an intense 4-day, 87.6 km (54.4 miles) traverse through the wild and dangerous Vuelta a los Hielos Continentales, just outside El Chaltén in Southern Patagonia. This route cuts deep into one of the most remote regions of Patagonia, across the third-largest ice field on the planet, with massive glaciers, unpredictable terrain, and 3,487 m (11,440 ft) of elevation gain. Definitely not a casual hike. 🏔 Trip Summary This was a last-minute, slightly insane decision. I met Mats, a 21-year-old German guy, on Reddit, and not long after, we were out attempting one of Patagonia’s most serious routes together. At 47, trying to keep up with his speedy ass was a challenge in itself. We completed the Vuelta a los Hielos Continentales in 4 days instead of the recommended 6, moving fast through brutal terrain, long days, and constantly changing conditions. We were also incredibly lucky, blessed with good weather out on the ice, which made a huge difference on a route like this. This route is no joke. We crossed two Tyrolean traverses, navigated snow-covered sections with hidden crevasses, and pushed through some of the most remote backcountry I’ve ever experienced. Trekking poles are essential here to probe snow bridges and avoid falling into crevasses, but I didn’t even have mine. This wasn’t planned. It was a last-minute, drunk decision that led me to change my flight to Ushuaia and send it anyway. Would not recommend taking this lightly. 📊 Stats Distance: 87.6 km (54.4 miles) Elevation gain: 3,487 m (11,440 ft) Duration: 4 days (recommended 6) Terrain: Glaciers, snowfields, river crossings, extreme exposure Difficulty: Very high / dangerous ⚠️ Important This is a highly dangerous and remote route. Experience with glacier travel, navigation, and proper gear is critical. Do not attempt without preparation. 📲 Follow me on Instagram and Facebook: Instagram: / drunkardinpatagonia Facebook: / drunkardinpatagonia If you liked this video, please like, subscribe, and share to support the channel. #Patagonia #Hiking #VueltaALosHielosContinentales #GlacierTravel #IceField #ExtremeHiking #Backpacking #Adventure #PatagoniaHiking #Argentina #Trekking #Mountains #ExploreMore #WildPatagonia #Senderismo #OutdoorAdventure #SouthernPatagoniaIceField #ElChalten #drunkardinpatagonia
