In Session 4 of our 6-part series on the Eucharist, we reflected on two foundational questions of our Catholic faith. First, what does it mean that the Eucharist is a “memorial” of Christ’s sacrifice? Drawing from Sacred Scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we learned that the Eucharist is not a mere remembrance of the past, but a living memorial in which Christ’s one sacrifice on the Cross is made present and its saving power is applied to us today. Second, we explored why the Mass is the heart of Christian worship. In the Mass, Christ speaks to us in His Word and gives Himself to us in His Body and Blood. Word and Sacrament form one single act of worship through which the Church is formed, nourished, and sent on mission. Together, these reflections help us see the Eucharist as the living encounter with Christ that stands at the very center of Christian life.
