Our second stop of our transatlantic cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona! We crossed the Atlantic on the beautiful Celebrity Ascent. Our first stop was Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Funchal is our second port. Just wow! We absolutely loved it. We walked from the ship along the waterfront to take the cable cars that would take us up to the beautiful botanical gardens called Jardim Botánico da Madeira. The cable car ride to go and come back was 20€ and we got the tickets at a small kiosk along the waterfront. It ended up being better than getting them at the cable card base station. The cable car and garden views were fantastic and we were lucky to visit on a great visibility day. After the amazing gardens, we walked a little around town and stopped here and there for Poncha, (a delicious punch cocktail typical of Madeira), the famous pasteis de nata, beer and some expressos. We then slowly walked back to the ship. Thank you Funchal for being amazing and welcoming us. We will for sure return one day soon!
