A true scholar (‘Aalim) is not recognized merely by knowledge, degrees, or speeches — but by deep fear of Allah ﷻ (Khashiyat). The Qur’an declares: "Innama yakhshallaha min ‘ibadihil ‘ulama" Indeed, only those fear Allah from among His servants who have knowledge. The most outstanding quality of the people of knowledge is humility and fear before Allah. When Allah’s name is mentioned, their hearts tremble. Their nights are filled with tears. Their private lives are purer than their public image. Throughout Islamic history, great scholars were known not only for their learning but for their intense consciousness of Allah. Abdullah ibn Umar would weep so much out of fear of Allah that marks formed beneath his eyes. Abdullah ibn Abbas was known for excessive crying in remembrance of Allah. Imam Abu Hanifa once fainted when someone simply said to him, “Fear Allah.” This is the reality of knowledge — it produces fear, not pride. Where there is true Khashiyat, sin cannot remain. If sins dominate a person’s private life, it is a sign that fear of Allah has weakened. In today’s era, hidden sins through mobile phones, secret screens, and private indulgence have corrupted many hearts. A true scholar lives with the awareness that Allah sees him at all times. Even in complete privacy, he feels the presence of Allah. Knowledge without fear is information. Knowledge with fear is transformation.
