Tie The Alan Carr Booby with Alun Rees

This fly was developed over 15 years ago as a result of attempts to obtain the then 'secret' Woofter Booby pattern. Only glimpses were seen at many competition venues and this fly was the result. Even now, the definitive tying of the Woofter Booby is still open to debate. This is my go to point fly that has brought me success at many of the top Stillwater venues. The fly has stood the test of time and accounted for many, many fish. Often when given to a boat partner, their day has resulted in success. Combined with a fast glass line and a couple of diawl bachs, it allows me to search out the top layers of the water column to find out where the fish are. Sometimes taken off the top, but more often the line just locks up on a slow figure of eight retrieve. It is an effective fly especially in overcast conditions. I'd recommend you tie a few for your fly boxes and when conditions are favourable or you're not catching, try it out. Let me know the results! Dressing: Hook: Size 10 Tying Silk: 70D white Tail: Baby Pink Marabou Body: Chartreuse Straggle Fritz Wing: Baby Pink Marabou Eyes: Pink Ethafoam Booby eyes The straggle fritz used in this fly is called 'Sporadic Fritz' it's a Lureflash product that is still at the time of publishing, available from Glasgow Angling Centre: https://www.fishingmegastore.com/fly-... Although any straggle fritz in chartreuse of arounb 12 to 15mm will suffice. Don't be afraid to experiment.
