Welcome back to ricksworld studio 🌿✏️ A UK based artist on the South Coast of Britian check out my website: https://www.ricksworld.uk In this episode, I’m working on a brand-new pencil drawing from my Darkwood series — an aerial view of the ancient city of St. Sebastian, the gateway to the civilised world of Darkwood. This detailed graphite illustration explores a fortified city built around a vast chasm, surrounded by towering Tora trees whose roots shape the landscape itself. Perched above it all, an eagle character watches from the battlements as the city stretches into the forest canopy. In this video, you’ll see: How I build tonal depth using Derwent Graphic pencils Creating atmosphere through light-to-dark value transitions Designing a neo-gothic gatehouse and drawbridge (without a fixed plan) Adding small silhouetted figures to bring scale and life to the city Using shadow lines to ground characters naturally Applying fixative to protect finished graphite artwork This is very much a work-in-progress studio session, where the story evolves organically as I draw. St. Sebastian emerges as a historic frontier city — once defensive, now a place of pilgrimage and quiet movement within the Darkwood world.
