Staying at this houseboat didn't just change my trip to Coron; it changed how I think about traveling to world-famous places. It proved to me that you don't have to just accept overcrowding as a fact of life. The problem isn't that places like Coron are too popular. The problem is that most of us are forced to experience them in the exact same way. By choosing to stay somewhere different—somewhere that puts you in the middle of the action before anyone else arrives—you can reclaim that sense of magic. You can find the silence between all the noise. Waking up in that lagoon, I realized that true luxury isn't about five-star service or fancy amenities. It’s about solitude. It’s about having a place like Kayangan Lake all to yourself, even if it's just for an hour. It’s about getting to see a world-class wonder in its purest form. This stay gave me that. It replaced a rushed, crowded tour with a peaceful, immersive journey. It gave me the ultimate secret weapon, and it delivered a slice of paradise, purely on my own terms. So, I have to ask you: what's the most unique or game-changing place you've ever stayed? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for watching, and I'll see you on the next adventure. Coron, Palawan. The name alone makes you picture these impossible limestone cliffs, water so clear it looks like glass, and hidden lagoons just waiting to be found. It’s a place that has absolutely earned its spot on countless bucket lists. In fact, Travel plus Leisure's readers consistently vote Palawan as one of the best and most beautiful islands in the world. And that's the thing... the secret is out. The typical trip to Coron starts in Coron Town, a busy, energetic hub on the main island. From there, every single morning, a small army of these brilliant blue and yellow outrigger boats, called bangkas, load up with tourists and set off on nearly identical island-hopping routes. They all go to the exact same places, at the exact same time. This creates a massive bottleneck. You finally arrive at a breathtaking spot like Kayangan Lake or the Twin Lagoon, and you're fighting for a photo, waiting in line for a bamboo raft, and that peaceful silence you dreamed of is replaced by the buzz of boat engines and hundreds of voices bouncing off the cliffs. You're always on the tour guide's clock, rushing from one spot to the next, trying to absorb a world-class wonder in just 30 minutes. It's stunning, don't get me wrong, but it’s a shared beauty. It’s paradise on a very tight schedule. I just knew there had to be a different way, a better way, to see one of the most incredible places on Earth. And that's when I found it. The houseboat was a brilliant piece of design, built to almost disappear into its surroundings. My room was a beautiful wooden cabin with its own private deck and a completely uninterrupted view of the lagoon. But the most amazing thing isn't what you see; it's what you don't. The whole place runs completely off the grid. The owner, an Italian guy named Paolo, explained that all their power comes from solar panels. There’s no natural source of fresh water on the island, so every single drop is brought in by boat. And, most impressively, all the wastewater is held in tanks and then pumped out by a special boat and taken to a dedicated processing facility on another island, making sure that absolutely nothing pollutes these pristine waters. It's an incredible commitment to sustainability and a logistical puzzle that is just staggering to think about. Inside, the room was simple but cozy, with a fan to keep it cool, though you can get air conditioning for an extra charge. And then there was the kicker, something I absolutely did not expect out here: the WiFi was fantastic. They use Starlink, giving you a fast, reliable connection in one of the most remote corners of the Philippines—a country known for its spotty internet. It’s this wild, wonderful mix of total isolation and modern convenience. But the real luxury wasn't the WiFi or the comfy bed. It was the location. I was now staying in the very heart of Coron's treasures, miles from town. And that gave me an advantage I was about to use.
