Gangotri is one of 4 sacred temples in the Hindu religion, which form part of mini-Char Dhaam. It lies 26 km from Harsil Village. The temple lies on the banks of Bhagirathi River, which is considered the source of Ganga river, rising from Gaumukh Glacier. There are several other places near the temple, like Suraj Kund and Pandu Gufa.
