Save some money and do it yourself! Using a nipple drinker for poultry is a great way to hydrate your chickens. It wastes less water and stays cleaner than traditional poultry drinkers because it reduces splashing and eliminates the birds kicking waste into the water. I am currently transitioning our 4 week old chicks to this style of drinker and I have seen videos of chicks as young as one week using them. I bought a nipple drinker from Tractor Supply a year ago and it works great. I needed another and thought I might be able to save some money by making my own. The materials I used are: 5 gallon food grade bucket and lid Cost: ~$5 Probably best to get this from a big box store, Amazon's prices are way high at the time of this recording. Chicken Water Nipple Drinkers: (http://amzn.to/2mympc3) Cost at time of recording: ~$7 for 25 (I bought mine locally for $1.50 each) 100% Silicone Sealant: (http://amzn.to/2mX1DOp) Cost at time of recording: ~$5 In total, I spent about $8 on my 5 gallon waterer. The Tractor Supply one I bought a year ago was around $25. -- Resources I find helpful for raising poultry: The Backyard Homestead Guide to Raising Farm Animals: http://amzn.to/2myjDTU Pastured Poultry Profits: http://amzn.to/2niZrEk
