The Gilson MO-36 Rolling Thin Film Oven (RTFO) manufactured in cooperation with Applied Test Systems (ATS), has an advanced design to simulate short-term aging of asphalt binder in accordance with ASTM D2872, AASHTO T 240, and California Test Method 346. This rugged unit’s precision components easily enables users to control temperature and airflow. And the RTFO’s straightforward easy-to-operate process requires minimal training. The integral flowmeter monitors and controls air flow to the specified 4000 ml/min (milliliter per minute) (+/- 100) (Maximum air flow rating is 5,000 mL/m). The RTFO consists of a double walled stainless steel oven has a built-in NIST traceable platinum RTD temperature sensor that precisely controls temperature to ±0.1°C for and overall oven uniformity (Platinum RTD Temperature Sensor accurate to ±0.1°C) (Operating Temperature of 163°C (325°F)) (Maximum Oven temperature of 246°C (475°F)), (Delete [±33.8°F] from text at bottom). And at 250°C (485°F) a thermal shutdown switch provides over-temperature protection. Heating time from ambient to set-point test temperature is 20 minutes (163°C [325.4°F]) And full heat recovery time is 5 to 8 minutes after loading of RTFO specimen bottles. The Gilson MO-36 RTFO’s controlled flow of heated air is directed into the openings of horizontal glass bottles as they rotate on a carousel rack, simulating short term aging during production, handling and paving operations. A jog feature rotates the carousal allowing for RTFO Bottles to be easily secured within the carousal’s soft, silicone compression rings. This time-saving improvement eliminates costly downtime associated with spring clamp system scratching of expensive RTFO bottles, associated with other Rolling Thin Film Oven models. The RTFO has improved maintenance feature such as its easily removable bottom tray allowing for quick change of elements or spill clean-up, and bushing within the fan are made of graphite for a long service life, to make the Gilson MO-36 Rolling Thin Film Oven the right choice for your material testing lab.
