In Episode 4 of our Round Table series, community leaders working in mental health come together for a powerful and necessary conversation about: ▪️ The disproportionate suspension and exclusion of Black Caribbean pupils ▪️ Racism and bias within schools ▪️ The rise in punitive education systems ▪️ The “school-to-prison pipeline” ▪️ Mental health stigma within families ▪️ And what it really means to place Black youth in the director’s chair of their own narratives We explore how young people are often labelled rather than listened to, disciplined rather than understood, and how systemic issues, not “bad behaviour,” are driving the statistics. From lived mentoring experiences in Haringey to discussions about academisation, curriculum reform, and institutional accountability, this episode asks: 💭 Are we fixing children — or ignoring the environments shaping them? 💭 Are we hearing young people — or just selecting the polished voices? 💭 What happens after they speak? This is not just a conversation about education. It’s about representation, prevention, and responsibility. If we want sustained change in education and mental health, we must rethink the system, not just the child. Watch, reflect, and join the conversation. #bmmuk #roundtable #blackyouth #mentalhealth #educationreform #schooltoprisonpipeline #communityvoices #advocacy #systemicchange
