The Miami defense forced 3 takeaways- including a 38-yard pick 6 by defensive back Keionte Scott for the Hurricanes’ 2nd touchdown in just :23 of the 2nd quarter, Malachi Toney hit Carson Beck with a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Mario Cristobal’s 18th-ranked ‘Canes (7-2) kept their slim College Football Playoff hopes alive with a 38-10 thrashing of the Syracuse Orange on homecoming day at Hard Rock Stadium. Carson Beck (18-24, 261 yds, TD, no Int) hit Keelan Marion (3 red, 116 yds) on a beautiful 61 yard TD pass in the 3rd quarter, as Miami put up 31 points in the middle 2 quarters. Girard Pringle Jr. (7 carries, 55 yds) added a 22-yard TD run in the 3rd quarter for the Hurricanes, who got off to a slow start because of dropped passes and the lack of a running game. Francis Mauigoa ran one in from 3 yards out (on a lateral) to finish off the scoring for Miami. Carter Davis drilled a 36-yard field goal on the last play of the 3rd quarter. Miami was out rushed by Syracuse, and the stats were close to even, but did not commit a turnover and was called for just 5 penalties, both big improvements from recent performances.
