Sense of Home Guitar Lesson (Harrison Storm) Easy Beginners Fingerstyle Song Guitar Tutorial

Here is my new guitar tutorial on how to play the song ‘Sense of Home’ by Harrison Storm. Thanks to Danny for the request. This is a great fingerstyle song for beginners. What I have done for you in this fingerstyle guitar lesson is firstly go through the chord progressions. There is essentially one progression throughout the song with a brief bridge in which he plays a lovely Dadd11 chord. Note that the chord box for the G chord is how the G chord will be played when you add the picking pattern, and not what I play in the video. Once you’re confident with your chord changing technique and the chords are moving smoothly, you can look to add the easy fingerstyle picking pattern (well, easier than the alternative!). I present a simplified picking pattern which incorporates an alternating bass note with the thumb (p) with alternating index (i) and middle (m) finger picks on strings 3 and 2 in between the thumb picks. For the chords with the root on the low E string (i.e. Em and G), the thumb will alternate between strings 6 and 4. With chords that have the root on the A string (in this instance, the C chord) the thumb will alternate between strings 5 and 4. Take your time with the picking patterns, starting with one static chord and then look to incorporate some chord changing (like I demonstrate in the video going between the Em and G chord). Only once you are confident with that should you attempt the actual picking pattern which has the addition of hammer on and pull off technique. What is particularly challenging for this song is that the hammer ons and pull offs are occurring whilst the thumb continues its alternating bass pattern. It took me a good while to get my head around this one!
