[Abstract] Build your security skills from home without committing to costly cloud infrastructure using a home lab; all you need is an affordable spare PC and VirtualBox! In this presentation we'll go over the power of virtualization in building a safe, self-contained virtual computing environment to practice security operations in. We'll look at affordable options for hardware, and how you gradually invest in your own home lab to build your cyber skills and simulate interesting scenarios using free software. [Speaker bio] David is a cybersecurity instructor based in Seattle. The principal curriculum developer of the first ever Code Fellows cyber ops bootcamp, David holds a masters degree in Cybersecurity & Information Assurance and has completed a number of certifications including Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and CompTIA Security+. When not teaching, David volunteers for Cybersecurity Non-Profit (CSNP) in an effort to provide career resources and create pathways for aspiring cyber professionals of tomorrow.
