House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) held a news conference on Day 28 of the federal government shutdown, blaming Senate Democrats for rejecting the House-passed, GOP-led stopgap for the 13th time. Lawmakers voted 54-45 on the funding patch Tuesday which would have floated federal operations through Nov. 21. Democrats have continued to double down on their position that they will not vote to resume federal funding until Republicans negotiate on a bipartisan compromise on soon-to-expire Affordable Care Act tax credits.
