The slide in Peach’s Castle is a so-called “secret,” which means there’s no visitors, so the slide’s gotta be dinky, dusty, and musty as hell, yeah? Imagine getting carpet burn on your ass because you entered through this supposed stained glass window which led to some weird carpet(?) slide in the middle of a void to “get a star or two.” I never played the original Mario 64 until emulating it -- whuh, I mean, LEGALLY PLAYING ON HARDWARE THAT I ABSOLUTELY HAVE WITH THE PHYSICAL GAME THAT I ALSO ABSOLUTELY HAVE -- some five or six years ago, but I did play the DS version long before. I loved the hell out of it. It’s one of those games that I ran Action Replay through to make it do various things, like remove the textures or play through that cool-ass test room, but it never gave me 150 stars; my brother and I had to do that on our own. I remember the whole “Purple Prizes” rumour, and the one that was most convincing to my little 9-year-old mind was beating Koopa the Quick in Bob-Omb Battlefield within less than 32 seconds or something and checking how far the wall underneath the bridge “titled,” which you would fight the “Purple Rabbit King.” One night, my brother out of the blue asks me “...What if the Waluigi thing is fake?” and I cannot stress you enough how heartbroken I was hearing that. There’s not much of a difference between the DS version and the original’s soundtracks, but I used the former as reference. I get what the drums are like in the original track but I went with something else, and I hope that I captured the same “hectic” feeling. The second half of the whistle solo was too high imo so I lowered it down an octave. Otherwise, everything’s pretty much intact. I would’ve stuck with just the N163 channels but the triangle wasn’t cutting it for me. I haven’t talked about Forest Fire Season in like two years, given that there wasn’t really one last year, at least to my knowledge. July 2021 though? Good Lord, man. If the weather ever gets back to +40°C (~104°F for you silly Americans out there), I will kick somebody’s ass before the heat takes me out. It’s scary up here.
