The Glenlivet Captain's Reserve [History, Opening, Aroma, Taste and Price] The Glenlivet Captain's Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky Cognac Cask Selection - a selective finished in Cognac Casks to give a rich and intense flavour. 40% ABV 750ml The History: A Whisky inspired by Captain William Smith, a Great Grandson of the Founder George Smith. People loved to call him as 'The Captain' Captain William Smith was fighting in France during WW1 when he inherited the Glenlivet Distillery. In 1824, George Smith established his distillery in the remote and wild valley of Glenlivet. Eversince, his smooth flowing whisky has been regarded as the definitive Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The Signature: The Glenlivet is claiming to be the ‘first major single malt finished in Cognac casks’. Has been matured in a mixture of ex-Bourbon and Sherry casks, before being finished in ex-Cognac casks for at least six months. Based on some other reviewer, this will sit above Glenlivet 15 Year Old in the range. The Packaging: Packaged in signature gift box in purple color with embossed text and gold colored text... The box is full of literature on the tasting notes. Sold with its signature gift box, making this the perfect whisky to celebrate a special occasion. The Bottle: Round body with engraved with the Founder's name - 'George & J. G Smith' Uses cork cap as commonly used on most of Scotch Whisky. Below the bottle neck, a gold plated semi circle shape logo with the year the distillery was founded. The Opening: Like the other Scotch Whisky, it uses as cork cap tapped with plastic cap with '1824' logo. The Color: Rich deep golden, golden amberish in color. The Strengths: The taste and the smoothness. This whisky is very smooth and easy to drink. The Aroma, Nosing: You can smell right away the fruity like aroma and the sweetness. Noticeable sweet cinnamon and honey. Really nosable whisky, i like the sweetness in the aroma The Taste: Obvious flavours of mandarins in syrup, raisins and bit of apple note. Easy to drink. Subtle sensation of spicy finish. Price: CAD$70.15 US$51.23 PHP3,149.00 (Boozy.PH) Should i buy this again: Yes, due to the sweetness and easy to drink. A good introductory Whisky for peeps that not used in drinking Whisky. I usually buy this if i am inviting friends that's not a whisky lover. With its sweetness in flavour and aroma, it might help them to love Whisky...
