With the nation closing in on the 2024 National Elections, political engagement is once again at an all-time high. The Office of the Mayor for the eThekwini Municipality has drawn the community together for the draft budget meeting, and to listen to their grievances with regards to water and electricity tariffs, as well as water-shedding and load shedding, service delivery, infrastructure, road issues, and any other issues community members would like to address. The meeting forms part of the 2024/ 2025 consultation roadshows. Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, mayor of the eThekwini Municipality, addressed the community’s concerns and put forth the municipality’s plan of action to remedy them. With the budget’s total exceeding a whopping R67 billion, and the operating budget coming in at just under a billion, the municipality’s priorities were questioned, and many expressed just how fed up they are with all the promises and next to no improvement.
