La Gavre is a Contredanse (NOT Contra Dance) published in 1777 in Pierre Trappeniers's Recueil de Contredanse (vol. 2). It is a proper duple minor dance. It was interpreted by Philippe Callens in 2002. Found in "The Playford Assembly". Pierre Trappeniers lived in what we now call Belgium but which was then part of the Austrian Empire. I tracked down what I believe to be the original of the dance: https://musescore.com/user/69096/scor... and there are some differences between the French (as I understand it, I never studied French dance terms) and the dance we danced. A small point, when the first couple leads down the French says "with crossed hands" which I assume to mean a promenade hold, but we danced it with a single hand clasp. When we did two consecutive mirror gypsies, the French simple says "Pass around this same couple again". Finally in the last call we have the gentleman dance around the lady holding her right hand but the French says "The gentleman spins his lady". I don't know what "La Gavre" means. "Gaver" means "to gorge" and "La Gâvre" is a community in the northwest of France. But neither of these seems likely for an Austrian Belgian to describe a dance. The music was published with the dance and performed by Colin Hume. The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are draw as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set. https://www.upadouble.info/
